The 2026 FIFA World Cup runs June 11 through July 19 across 16 North American host cities — 11 of them in the US. It is the largest sporting event ever held on this continent: more than a hundred matches, millions of traveling fans, and six weeks of packed bars, hotels, transit hubs, and fan festivals. For most businesses that's a spectator event. For vending operators, it's a demand spike you can physically position machines in front of.
Why a soccer tournament moves vending revenue
Vending revenue is a function of foot traffic times dwell time, and the World Cup inflates both for over a month:
- Fan festivals and watch zones — host cities run official fan fests for the full six weeks, drawing daily crowds whether or not a match is local that day. Crowds standing outside in late June want cold drinks and ice. Constantly.
- Hotels at full occupancy — traveling supporters fill rooms for days per match, not hours. A hotel lobby or floor machine in a host city works six weeks of peak season.
- Bars and restaurants over capacity — matches run morning to night across time zones. Sports bars will be slammed on weekdays at 1pm. Their existing machines (and yours, if you move now) will need double the restock cadence.
- Transit surges — stadium rail lines and park-and-rides see event-day spikes all tournament long.
If you operate in a host metro
Five host metros have full VendBuddy location guides: Atlanta, Dallas, Kansas City, Miami, and the New York/New Jersey venue area. Houston, LA, the Bay Area, Seattle, Philadelphia, and Boston round out the US list.
- Restock harder, not just more often. Cold drinks and water will outsell snacks 3:1 in standing-crowd locations during summer events. Shift your planogram toward drinks, electrolytes, and water for the six weeks.
- Ask your existing locations about event plans. A laundromat near a rail line might be irrelevant; the gym two blocks from a fan fest is about to triple its walk-ins. Your current placement agreements already give you the relationship — use it to ask what they expect.
- Ice and water vending get the biggest bump. Outdoor ice vending units near beaches, parks, and tailgate lots in host metros are the single best-positioned machine type for this event (see the ice vending guide and what the machines cost).

That’s the real promise of vending — income that doesn’t cost you your time, and a life on your own terms. VendBuddy turns this guide into a step-by-step plan so you actually build it instead of just reading about it. Start free today.
Start building free →The short-window placement play
Six weeks is long enough to justify a temporary placement and short enough that locations say yes easily. The pitch is simpler than a normal placement because the deal has a natural end date:
- Target businesses within walking distance of stadiums, fan fests, and the rail stops serving them: bars, barbershops, laundromats, convenience-adjacent retail, hotels without their own vending.
- Offer a six-week placement with a defined removal date — "I place it before the first match, service it through the final, and we both see what it earns. If it works, we sign the normal agreement; if not, I remove it July 20." That is a much easier yes than an open-ended contract.
- Walk in with the standard pitch and commission framing — the only change is the end date.
If you're NOT in a host city
You still get a smaller version of the same effect: every sports bar in America becomes a watch venue for six weeks, and summer heat is doing its usual work on cold-drink sales. The honest version: don't expect a transformation — expect your bar, gym, and hotel placements to run hotter than a normal June, and time your restocks to match days (group-stage matches cluster mid-day; knockouts skew evenings/weekends).
The bigger lesson outlasts the tournament
The World Cup is a six-week case study in the rule that makes or breaks every route: machines earn what their foot traffic earns. Concerts, state fairs, marathons, college move-in weeks — every one of these is a mini World Cup for the locations near it. Operators who build a habit of mapping their metro's event calendar against their machine map consistently out-earn operators with identical equipment.
