Wix Review for Small Business (2026): Pricing, SEO, Bookings

The 30-second version
  • As of September 2026, Wix plans billed yearly run Light $17, Core $29, Business $39 and Business Elite $159 a month, with a free plan and a 14-day money-back guarantee on the first upgrade.
  • Online payments and scheduling start on Core; Light gets you a custom domain but no payments.
  • Wix's SEO tools are deep for a site builder: per-page titles and slugs, automatic sitemap, Search Console integration, custom JSON-LD and automatic Local Business markup on the homepage.
  • The big trade-off is lock-in: Wix says a Wix site cannot be exported to another host.
  • Wix is the easier pick for a polished brochure site with bookings; Base44 (owned by Wix) is better for custom tools like calculators.

This Wix review for small business owners starts with the verdict: Wix is the easiest way for a non-technical owner to get a credible, search-friendly service site live in a weekend, as long as you accept that the site lives on Wix for good. It now builds a first draft from a prompt, has over 2,000 templates, and bundles SEO tools, forms, bookings and payments. The trade-offs are the price as you add features and the lock-in.

A disclosure before the details: Wix owns Base44, the AI app builder, after buying it in June 2025 (source: the Wix press room), and we earn a commission from both. We use vending, our home turf, as the running example, but everything here applies to any local service business. If you are a new vending operator, the order still matters: a Google Business Profile first, a site around machine three to five. We explain why in do vending machine businesses need a website.

What does Wix cost as of September 2026?

These are the US list prices on wix.com/plans as of September 2026. Wix notes that prices vary by location, displayed prices are for yearly plans paid up front, and taxes are extra.

PlanPrice (yearly)StorageWhat matters for a service business
Free$0n/aWix subdomain and Wix branding; fine for building, not for launching
Light$17/mo2 GBCustom domain, free domain for a year, no online payments
Core$29/mo50 GBAccept payments, scheduling and services, basic eCommerce
Business$39/mo100 GBStandard marketing suite and eCommerce, 10 collaborators
Business Elite$159/moUnlimitedAdvanced marketing and developer tools, 100 collaborators

Two plan-page details worth knowing. The free domain is a one-year voucher for a new domain bought through Wix; it cannot renew a domain you already own, and renewals are billed at the normal rate after year one. And the 14-day money-back guarantee applies only to your first upgrade to a premium plan.

For most service businesses the choice is between Light and Core. If you only need a site with a contact or request form, Light does the job. If you want to take bookings, deposits or payments online, you need Core or higher.

How good is the Wix AI website builder?

Wix's AI website builder page describes the flow: describe your business, get a generated site with pages, layout and copy, then refine it either by chatting with Aria, Wix's built-in AI agent, or by dragging and dropping in the editor. It is part of what Wix now calls Wix Harmony. The older ADI tool was retired in November 2024.

The output looks like a real small-business site on the first try, largely because it draws on the same design system as the template library. For a vending company, a prompt like "vending machine company serving offices and apartment buildings in Columbus, with a services page, a locations-served page and a request-a-machine form" gets you something you can edit into shape in an evening.

Where it is weaker: generated copy is generic, and it will happily invent claims you cannot back up. Replace every sentence with something true about your route, and swap stock photos for pictures of your own installs.

How strong are Wix's SEO tools?

Stronger than their reputation from a decade ago. According to wix.com/seo, every site gets server-side rendering, an XML sitemap that Wix maintains and submits, editable title tags, meta descriptions and URL slugs per page, custom canonical tags, a robots.txt editor, a 301 redirect manager with bulk import of up to 500 URLs, and automatic image compression to WebP.

A few features matter a lot for local businesses. The SEO Setup Checklist builds a plan around your business type and location. The Google Search Console integration verifies your domain and shows search data inside the Wix dashboard. The Google Business Profile integration lets you manage your profile and reviews from the same place. And per Wix's structured data help article, when you add a business name and location, Wix automatically creates Local Business markup for your homepage; you can add up to five custom JSON-LD markups on any other page.

There is also an AI Visibility tool that shows how your site is mentioned in ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity. We would not buy a plan for it, but it is a useful check once you have content.

No tool fixes thin content. We learned that the hard way when vendbuddy.io published 613 near-identical city pages and Google treated them as thin. Our walkthrough of Wix SEO setup for a local service business shows how to build service-area pages that do not fall into the same trap.

Bookings, forms and payments: what works on which plan?

Forms work on every plan. By default, Wix emails the site owner on each submission, and you can add other recipients, including addresses outside your site, per Wix's form notification help page. Submissions also land in your contacts list, which is a light CRM.

Bookings can be added for free, but Wix's Bookings help article says you must upgrade to accept bookings, and the plan page lists scheduling from Core up. Bookings covers services at multiple locations, a booking calendar, custom booking forms, and email or SMS reminders. For a vending operator, that could be a "book a free site survey" page. For a cleaning or pressure-washing business, it is the core of the site.

Payments start on Core. Light cannot take money online at all, which is the main reason to skip it if you sell anything.

Where Wix falls short

You cannot take the site with you. Wix's help center says a Wix site cannot be moved to another host because it runs on Wix's own technology. You can keep your domain and copy your content out, but the design stays behind. If you think you might move to WordPress in two years, weigh that now.

Costs creep. The plan price is only part of it: premium apps from the App Market, a Google Workspace mailbox, and domain renewal after the free year all add up. Check the renewal price of your domain before you pick it.

Custom logic is hard. A commission calculator or a lead-scoring intake needs a third-party widget or Wix's developer platform. That is where Base44 is simply better.

The editor has a lot of buttons. Wix is easy to start and slower to master. Budget a weekend for the first version and a few hours to learn where the SEO settings live.

Wix is not for you if you need your code and hosting portable, or if your site is really an app with custom rules. For a broader comparison, see Wix vs Squarespace vs WordPress for a vending business.

A vending example: a Wix site in one weekend

Here is what we would build on Wix for a route of five to ten machines. Saturday: generate the site from a prompt, then trim it to five pages. Home, Services (snacks, drinks, micro markets), Locations served (only the areas you actually cover), About with photos of your own installs, and Request a machine. Sunday morning: set titles, descriptions and slugs on every page, fill in business info so the Local Business markup appears, connect Search Console and your Google Business Profile. Sunday afternoon: publish on Light, or Core if you want a site-survey booking page.

Our guide to what to put on a vending company website has the page-by-page checklist, and the AI prompts for a vending website work well in Wix's AI builder.

A site catches inbound demand. For outbound, the Lead Finder in VendBuddy finds property managers and office buildings to contact, and every cold email you send is stronger with a real site in the signature.

Is Wix worth it? Which plan to start with

For a small service business that wants a good-looking site, local SEO basics and maybe bookings, yes. Build it on the free plan first; you do not pay until you connect a domain. Then pick Light if you only need a site and a form, or Core if you want bookings or payments. Business and Business Elite are for stores and teams, and most service businesses can ignore them.

If that matches what you need, start your Wix site on the free plan and use the 14-day refund window as a test period after you upgrade. If your site is really a tool, like a request tracker or a quote calculator, look at Base44 instead, or use it alongside a Wix marketing site. Our Wix vs Base44 comparison lays out the two side by side.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does Wix cost per month in 2026?

As of September 2026, Wix's US plans billed yearly are Light $17, Core $29, Business $39 and Business Elite $159 per month, according to wix.com/plans. There is also a free plan with a Wix subdomain. Prices vary by location and exclude tax.

Which Wix plan do I need to take bookings or payments?

Core or higher. Wix's plan page lists accepting payments and scheduling from Core up, and its Bookings help article says you must upgrade your site to accept bookings. Light gives you a custom domain but no online payments.

Is Wix good for SEO?

For a small business site, yes. Wix provides editable titles, descriptions and slugs, an automatic sitemap, Google Search Console integration, a 301 redirect manager, custom JSON-LD structured data and automatic Local Business markup on the homepage once you add your business name and location.

Can I move my Wix site to another host later?

No. Wix's help center says Wix sites cannot be exported to external hosting because they run on Wix's proprietary technology. You can transfer your domain and copy your content, but you would rebuild the design elsewhere.

Is Base44 part of Wix?

Yes. Wix announced its acquisition of Base44 in June 2025. Base44 runs as a separate AI app builder with its own plans, better suited to custom tools like calculators and request trackers.
