- Hunter lists Free at 50 credits a month, Starter at $49 a month ($34 billed yearly, 2,000 credits), Growth at $149 and Scale at $299 (checked 2026-10-08).
- It starts from a company website. VendBuddy (our product) starts from local businesses near a ZIP and shows who decides there.
- Snov.io, Prospeo, Apollo and LeadMagic fit nearby jobs; Prospeo offers 100 free credits a month with no time limit.
- Stay with Hunter if you already have company websites and want the most direct email finder.
Hunter.io alternatives make sense when Hunter does its job well but the job is not quite yours. Hunter is built to find an email address once you know the company; plenty of small businesses are stuck one step earlier, with no list of companies at all. Below are seven alternatives, with every price read from each vendor's own page on 2026-10-08, and a clear note on where Hunter is the better choice.
Part of our complete guide: how to find vending machine locations.
The short answer
- Pick VendBuddy if you do not yet know which businesses to contact. It starts from local businesses near a ZIP (apartments, offices, gyms, medical offices) and shows who decides at each. VendBuddy is our product.
- Stay with Hunter if you already have the company websites. The Free plan has 50 credits a month, one connected mailbox and 500 recipients per sequence.
- Pick Prospeo or Snov.io for another credit-based email finder at a similar price. Pick Apollo for title search with sequences and a Free plan.
- Skip them all if you need a few addresses. Our guide to finding business owner contact information covers the free methods.
VendBuddy is our product. The button opens the free search; no card is needed and you start with 5 free credits.
What Hunter's page lists
On 2026-10-08 Hunter's pricing page listed these plans. Free: 50 credits a month, basic Discover filters, an AI assistant, signals from existing leads, one connected email account, 500 recipients per sequence and unlimited team members. Starter: $49 a month, or $34 a month billed yearly ($408), with 2,000 credits a month. Growth: $149 a month ($104 yearly, $1,248), 10,000 credits a month. Scale: $299 a month ($209 yearly, $2,508), 25,000 credits a month. Enterprise: custom.
So the reasons to look elsewhere are narrow ones. You want phone numbers; you want to start from places, not websites; you want a different credit mix; or you want your finder and your sender in different hands. None of that is a criticism of Hunter.
How we checked
On 2026-10-08 we opened each vendor's own pricing page (and, for VendBuddy, our pricing page, homepage and ZIP-search page) and copied plan names, prices and limits into the table. This is a pricing and fit comparison from those pages, not a hands-on lab test, so we give no scores and no accuracy or deliverability numbers. Where a page did not say something, we left it out. Vendors change plans often, so confirm on their page before you pay.

The alternatives
VendBuddy (our product)
Best for: a person who sells to local businesses and needs the list of businesses, not just the email.
Price (checked 2026-10-08): Free account with 5 credits and no card. Starter is $49 a month for 150 credits, or $39 a month billed yearly ($470, with 240 bonus credits). Pro is $79 a month for 300 credits ($63 a month yearly). Credit packs are $32 for 50, $119 for 200 and $295 for 500 (plus 100 bonus), and pack credits never expire.
Hunter answers "what is the email at this company". VendBuddy answers the question before it: "which companies near me, and who decides there". Enter a ZIP, choose property types, and the list of matches (address, category, website, employee count) is free. Spend a credit on the ones you pick. One credit reveals the best contact on file, with whatever name, title, email and phone exist. Under the hood the reveals draw on outside data providers; we are not claiming a better database than Hunter's, only a different starting point.
Skip it if: you already have company websites, search by job title nationwide, or need intent data and large exports.
Snov.io
Best for: a Hunter-like email finder with outreach on the same account at $39 a month.
Price (checked 2026-10-08): Trial at no cost (50 credits, 100 recipients, 1 warm-up slot). Starter is $39 a month (1,000 credits). Pro is $99 a month (5,000 credits). Custom Ultra starts at 200,000 credits.
The trial includes 50 credits, 100 recipients, 25 enrichment tokens and 1 email warm-up slot, per the page. The Starter plan lists 1,000 credits a month, half of Hunter's 2,000 at roughly the same price point, so compare what a credit buys on each before choosing.
Skip it if: you need the larger monthly credit pool.
Prospeo
Best for: verified emails and a free plan with no time limit.
Price (checked 2026-10-08): Free with 100 credits a month, no time limit. Paid plans are listed at $49, $99 and $249 a month, or $37, $74 and $187 a month on yearly billing.
The page puts one verified business email at 1 credit and a direct mobile number at 10 credits. 100 free credits a month is the largest free allowance on this list for emails.
Skip it if: mobile numbers are central to your outreach.
Apollo
Affiliate link: VendBuddy may earn a commission at no extra cost to you.
Best for: search by title and company with a Free plan that also sends emails.
Price (checked 2026-10-08): Free at $0 (900 credits per seat a year, granted monthly; 1 mailbox; 250 emails a day). Basic is $49 per seat a month billed annually (30,000 credits a year). Professional is $79 (48,000 credits). Organization is $119 with a 3-seat minimum (72,000 credits).
Apollo's Free plan has 900 credits per seat a year (granted monthly), one mailbox and 250 emails a day. See Apollo.io alternatives.
Skip it if: you want to pay per contact and not per seat.
LeadMagic
Best for: API-style enrichment where failed lookups cost nothing.
Price (checked 2026-10-08): No free plan on the page. Essential is $99 a month or $990 a year (5,000 credits a month). Growth is $249 a month (20,000). Professional is $499 a month (50,000). Ultimate is $849 a month (100,000).
The page says credits are only deducted on a successful enrichment. New accounts choose a paid plan; there is no free tier listed.
Skip it if: you want a free plan to start.
RocketReach
Best for: a flat yearly price for looking up named people.
Price (checked 2026-10-08): Free with 5 lookups and no card. Essentials is $399 billed annually (shown as $33 a month). Pro is $899 a year ($75 a month). Ultimate is $1,699 a year ($142 a month).
All plans list API and MCP access; Pro adds CRM integrations. See RocketReach alternatives.
Skip it if: you want a finder built around company websites.
Lusha
Best for: adding phone numbers to the emails you already find.
Price (checked 2026-10-08): Free with 40 credits a month. Starter is $37.45 a month billed yearly (4,800 credits a year). Pro is $52.45 a month billed yearly (7,200 credits a year). Premium is $299.95 a month billed yearly (40,800 credits a year). Scale is custom.
A phone number costs 5 credits and an email 1, per the page. See Lusha alternatives.
Skip it if: you want a big monthly credit pool; Lusha grants credits per year.
When you should stay with Hunter
Hunter's Free plan is generous for what it is. If your workflow is "I have a list of company websites and I need an email for each", it is the most direct tool on this page. Its paid plans scale in clean steps (2,000, 10,000 and 25,000 credits a month) and the yearly discount is about 30 percent on every tier by our arithmetic from the page ($49 to $34, $149 to $104, $299 to $209). Sequences are included in the Free plan up to 500 recipients, so a very small outreach can run entirely free. Do not pay for anything else until you hit that ceiling.
Pricing math
Stated case: 150 contacts a month for twelve months. Sticker prices from the pages above.
- Hunter Starter: $34 x 12 = $408 billed yearly, or $49 x 12 = $588 monthly. 2,000 credits a month.
- Snov.io Starter: $39 x 12 = $468. 1,000 credits a month.
- Prospeo: $37 x 12 = $444 on the yearly rate as listed, or $49 x 12 = $588 monthly.
- VendBuddy Starter: $49 a month for 150 credits ($588 a year monthly, $470 billed yearly with 2,040 credits). Packs: 200 credits for $119 once.
VendBuddy's pay-per-reveal model is the main difference. On Starter, 150 credits for $49 works out to about 33 cents a reveal; the packs run from 64 cents a credit (50 for $32) down to 49 cents (500 plus 100 bonus for $295), and pack credits do not expire. There is no seat licence. The 7-day money-back guarantee applies to a first subscription payment if you have not used a credit, and renewals and credit packs are not refundable, per the pricing page.
Finding is half the job: sending
Hunter includes sequences. If you prefer a dedicated sender, you can use any finder with Smartlead, which is built for cold email sending (affiliate link; not tested by us, so judge it on its own trial). Whatever you use, write short one-to-one messages. We keep scripts in cold email scripts for vending contracts, and the rules are the same for any local business.

Affiliate link. We earn a commission if you sign up through it, at no extra cost to you. It does not change which tool we recommend.
Where VendBuddy fits, and who should not use it
VendBuddy is our product. Where Hunter starts from a company website, VendBuddy starts from a US ZIP and a distance around it, with 79 property types to choose from (apartment communities, offices, gyms, medical offices and more). The pricing page shows one real search: 44 locations within 10 miles. Searching and exporting the company list is free, and one credit reveals the best contact on file for one business you pick (see the pricing page).
If your list of company websites is already built, Hunter is the more direct tool. Reveals draw on outside data providers; we do not own a contact database and we publish no accuracy rate, so judge it on the 5 free credits. The product was built for vending operators, so the revenue rating and the pitch extras are vending-specific.
Who should not use VendBuddy:
- Anyone who wants an email finder for a list of known domains.
- Enterprise sales teams that need intent data, technographics, 100,000-contact exports or an outside CRM sync (the pricing page lists a built-in pipeline CRM only).
- Anyone searching by job title nationwide, or outside the US: search starts from a US ZIP and a distance.

How much does Hunter cost?
Per its pricing page on 2026-10-08: Free with 50 credits a month; Starter $49 a month or $34 billed yearly (2,000 credits a month); Growth $149 or $104 yearly (10,000 credits); Scale $299 or $209 yearly (25,000 credits); Enterprise custom.

Does VendBuddy have its own database?
We do not claim one. Reveals draw on outside data providers, and we publish no accuracy rate. Use the 5 free credits to check results in your area.
