- Start free: a property website and one phone call get a general manager or gym owner's name for the first 25 targets.
- VendBuddy (our product) searches Hotel / Extended Stay and Gym / Fitness Center by ZIP and radius, and reveals a contact for 1 credit. It was built for vending operators, so ignore its revenue rating.
- Hunter finds emails from a known website (free 50 credits a month); Apollo and Sales Navigator help with chains and management companies. None of these was tested by us.
- Prices checked 2026-10-08.
The best tools to sell to hotels and gyms are the ones that get you to a decision maker, not just a front desk. If you sell uniforms, linens, coffee, software, equipment service, signage or wellness programs to these buildings, the real work is finding the general manager or the owner and getting a reply. This guide compares what is available, with prices read from each company's own page on 2026-10-08.
The short answer
- For a local territory, start with VendBuddy (our product): search Hotel / Extended Stay or Gym / Fitness Center by ZIP and radius, then spend 1 credit to reveal the contact on file for the places you picked. Free account: 5 credits, no card. It was built for vending operators, so its revenue rating is not about your product.
- If you already have the websites, Hunter finds the emails on a domain. Free is 50 credits a month; the first paid plan lists at $49 a month. Not tested by us.
- For chain properties and gym brands, a title search in Apollo (free plan: 900 credits per seat per year) or LinkedIn Sales Navigator (Core from $119.99 a month) helps find the regional person. Not tested by us.
- Skip every paid tool for your first 25 targets. A phone call and the property's own website do the job for free.
VendBuddy is our product. 5 credits, no card.
VendBuddy is our product and it appears because it has both a hotel and a gym search. Its other features are aimed at vending operators, and we say which ones below.
Who actually decides at each place
Hotels and gyms look similar from the street and run very differently inside. The person to reach depends on how the place is owned.
- An independent hotel or inn: the general manager or the owner. Often one phone call away, sometimes the same person.
- A branded hotel run by a management company: the general manager holds day-to-day choices, while contracts for some categories may be signed higher up. Ask the front desk which company manages the property.
- An owner-run gym or studio: the owner, who may also be the person on the floor. Boxing, MMA, climbing, yoga and CrossFit gyms are mostly this type.
- A franchise or chain gym: a site manager for small items, and a regional or corporate buyer for anything that touches the brand.
Our walkthrough on finding a hotel general manager's contact goes deeper on the hotel side, and the decision-maker map lists who tends to own which choice in different kinds of buildings.
How we checked
On 2026-10-08 we read the pricing pages for Hunter, Apollo, Lusha, RocketReach, LinkedIn Sales Navigator and Smartlead, and the live VendBuddy site and search screen, including its location-type list. We did not run any competitor, so each is marked not tested by us and none gets a score. We also did not measure how often any tool finds a general manager's email. Nobody has a trustworthy general number for that, and we will not make one up.

Finding the hotel contact
For hotels the best free tool is the property's own website plus one phone call. Call the front desk and ask for the general manager's name and the best email, or ask which company manages the hotel. A short, polite call often works, because a desk clerk can give a name without giving a direct line.
VendBuddy's Hotel / Extended Stay type lists lodging near a ZIP, with a radius from 1 to 50 miles, and shows the title the app suggests asking for. A credit reveals the best contact it has on file. If you sell to hotels across a metro area, that gets you a call list in an afternoon. If you need the management company's regional person, it is a poor fit, and a title search is better. Skip it if you only target flagship brand hotels with corporate procurement.
Finding the gym contact
Gyms are the easier of the two when owner-run, and the harder when franchised. The VendBuddy app has a Gym / Fitness Center type, and separate types for boxing gyms, MMA gyms, climbing gyms, yoga and Pilates studios, CrossFit gyms, swim schools and YMCA or community gyms. That separation is the useful part when your product suits one kind of gym only. If you sell wall padding or floor mats, you may care about climbing and CrossFit and nothing else.
For the owner's email, the gym's website team or about page often names them. Hunter is made for the next step: type the gym's web domain and it lists the emails it found there. Free is 50 credits a month, so check how many credits one lookup uses. A hundred gyms cost you two months of the free plan only if each lookup is one credit, so confirm that first.
VendBuddy: the area-search pick (our product)
Best for: building the first list of hotels or gyms in a service area, with a contact on file for each. Price: free searching and 5 credits with no card. Starter is $49 a month for 150 credits, or $470 billed yearly. Pro is $79 for 300. Packs are $32 for 50, $119 for 200 and $295 for 600.
Real downsides:
- It was built for vending operators. The rating on each result is a guess at vending revenue. Your product is not vending, so it tells you nothing about fit.
- The contact on file may be the front office or the owner, and some reveals come back with a phone and no email.
- It will not tell you which hotels are branded or who manages them.

The title-search tools
Apollo filters by job title and industry. A free plan has 900 credits per seat per year; Basic is $49 per seat per month billed annually. It is strongest for chain and management-company contacts, where a title like "general manager" or "director of operations" is searchable. It is weaker for the owner-run gym with no LinkedIn presence. Not tested by us.

LinkedIn Sales Navigator is for finding a named person and sending a message. Core lists at $119.99 a month or $1,079.88 a year, and Advanced at $159.99 a month or $1,799.88 a year. It gives profiles, not email addresses. Not tested by us.
Lusha and RocketReach look up contact details for a person you have already named. Lusha Starter is $37.45 a month billed yearly; RocketReach Essentials is $33 a month billed annually and covers email only, with phones from Pro at $75 a month. Not tested by us.
What goes wrong most often
Three things trip people up. First, pitching the front desk. A desk clerk cannot buy anything, and a long pitch to them wastes the one call you get, so ask for a name and an email and stop. Second, sending the same email to a franchise gym and an owner-run studio. A franchise manager will forward you to a regional buyer, and the owner of a studio will want to know the price in the first lines. Third, buying a plan before you know which source gives the right name. Run the same ten places through two free plans and keep the one that wins.
A one-week routine for 100 targets
- Monday: search 50 hotels and 50 gyms in one radius, and drop any closed or unrelated places.
- Tuesday: reveal or look up contacts for the 25 best-fitting places. Call the other 75 front desks for a name.
- Wednesday: send 25 short emails, one to one.
- Thursday: call the ones who did not answer.
- Friday: follow up once, and log every answer. Note which source gave the right name.
A tool earns its fee only if it gives you the right name more often than the free route. Track that for a week before you pay for a month.
Sending the first message
Once you have the names, a cold-email tool helps with follow-ups for a few hundred contacts. Smartlead's Base plan is listed at $39 a month, or $32 a month billed yearly, with 2,000 contacts and 6,000 sends a month. We have not tested it. For a few dozen, your normal email is enough. Keep each first message to a few sentences, say why this property, and include your address and an opt-out. Our cold email scripts show the shape, and the business owner contact guide covers the lookup habits.

No. Property websites, a phone call and your own email are enough for a first batch. Paid tools help when you want a few hundred contacts quickly, and then you should test the free plan of two tools on the same ten places and compare.
