- VendBuddy Location Scout is a free Chrome extension, live on the Chrome Web Store since October 2026.
- Click it on a business website or Google Maps place: it reads the name, ZIP and type of business, with 61 venue types.
- It shows why that kind of venue can work, two things to check before you pitch, and a button that opens Lead Finder for that type and ZIP.
- It reads a page only when you click, stores and sends nothing, and asks for two permissions (activeTab and scripting).
- It does not save leads or estimate income; contacts come from Lead Finder, where searching is free and reveals use credits.
Most operators scout vending locations the same way: a Google Maps tab, a business website, and a lot of guessing about whether the place could carry a machine. You drive past a gym on the way home, look it up that night, and still do not know who to call. Location Scout is a free Chrome extension we built to make that ten-second guess a little less of a guess.
Part of our complete guide: how to find vending machine locations.
It does one small job. You open a business website or a Google Maps place page, click the VendBuddy icon, and the popup tells you what kind of venue it is, why that kind of venue tends to work for vending (or does not), two things to check before you pitch, and a button that opens Lead Finder for that venue type and ZIP so you can find the decision-maker.
Add Location Scout from the Chrome Web Store. It is free and works without a VendBuddy account; you only need one when you want to reveal a contact.
What the extension actually does
Here is the whole feature list, with nothing rounded up:
- Reads the business name and ZIP from the page you are on. It looks at the Google Maps place panel first, then the business data many websites publish for search engines (schema.org), then the page title and address text. You can edit both fields.
- Guesses the type of business. It knows 61 venue types, from urgent care clinics and apartment communities to car washes, bowling alleys, breweries and bars. The guess comes from the page's business data first, then keywords. If it is wrong, change it in the dropdown.
- Gives you a one-line reason the venue can work and two checks before you walk in, like "Is there a kitchen? Bars with full menus say no to snacks" or "Ask for the Tuesday-to-Thursday headcount, not the payroll number." These are short summaries of our free location guides, not income estimates.
- Opens Lead Finder for that venue type and ZIP in a new tab, so the search is already set up when you land.
- Links the full guide for that venue type, and has a quick box to search another ZIP or city.
What it does not do: it does not save leads, it does not scrape lists of businesses, it does not tell you what a location will earn, and it does not find contacts on its own. Contacts come from Lead Finder on vendbuddy.io. Searching there is free; a free account starts with 5 credits, and a credit is used when you reveal or verify a contact.
How to scout vending locations with it, step by step
- Install it from the Chrome Web Store, then click the puzzle icon in Chrome and pin VendBuddy Location Scout so the icon stays in your toolbar.
- Open a business. Either the business's own website or its Google Maps place page (click the business in Maps so its panel is open).
- Click the icon. The popup reads that one page and fills in the name, ZIP and type. If the page has no address, type the ZIP or the city.
- Read the fit note and the two checks. If the note says the venue type is usually a no (a coffee shop selling the same things you would stock, say), look at the building around it instead.
- Click "Find the decision-maker in VendBuddy." Lead Finder opens with the venue type and ZIP already filled. You will see that business and others like it nearby, with a score and the titles that usually sign at that kind of venue.
- Reveal the contact only for the ones worth a visit. That keeps your credits on places you will actually pitch.
It cannot read Chrome's own pages, the Chrome Web Store or PDFs (no extension can). On those, the popup says so and you can type the details in.
Picture the machines paying you while you sleep
That’s the real promise of vending — income that doesn’t cost you your time, and a life on your own terms. VendBuddy turns this guide into a step-by-step plan so you actually build it instead of just reading about it. Start free today.
Start building free →A quick example: the gym on your drive home
Say you pass a 24-hour gym in a strip center and wonder if it has a machine. At home you pull it up in Google Maps and click the icon. Location Scout fills in the gym's name and ZIP and picks "Gym / fitness center." The fit note says members come back several times a week, and the checks ask whether the front desk already sells shakes or drinks, and whether it is a franchise with a national vendor.
Now you know the two questions to ask on the walk-in. One click on the Lead Finder button shows that gym plus every other gym in the ZIP, scored, with the owner or general manager when we find one. That is a short list for a Saturday morning instead of a blank page.
The same flow works for a bar or a nightclub, with one big caveat if you run age-restricted machines: neither the extension nor Lead Finder can tell whether a venue keeps under-21s out at all hours. The extension's bar note says to keep age-restricted items to venues that can check ID; for vape and tobacco machines the legal test is stricter: no one under 21 admitted, ever. Our guide to vape vending machine locations walks through how to check that yourself.
Privacy: what it reads and what it keeps
We kept the extension small on purpose, because a browser extension that watches every page is a bad trade for a tool you use a few times a week.
- It reads the current page only when you click the icon, and only that page.
- It collects nothing, stores nothing and sends nothing. There are no network requests, no analytics and no ads in the extension.
- It asks for two Chrome permissions: activeTab (access to the tab you clicked on, only after you click) and scripting (to run its one bundled reader on that tab).
- The only thing it does with the web is open vendbuddy.io links in a new tab when you press a button.
The full statement is in our privacy policy.
Why a scouting tool at all
Nobody starts out knowing which buildings can carry a machine. Most operators learn it the slow way: twenty walk-ins, three maybes, one yes. The point of the extension is not to replace the walk-in. It is to make each walk-in a better bet, and to get you from "that place looks busy" to a name and a phone number in two clicks.
One good location changes how the next conversation goes. You stop asking "could this work?" and start asking "where is the next one like it?" That second question is what Lead Finder is for.
If you are still deciding what a good spot looks like, start with how to find vending locations and the vending locations by business type hub. Each venue note in the extension is a short summary of the matching guide in that hub.
Common questions before you install
Does it work on Edge or Brave? It is built for Chrome. Browsers built on Chromium can usually install Chrome Web Store extensions, but we test on Chrome.
Does it work outside the US? The ZIP reading is built for US addresses. You can type a city instead, and Lead Finder resolves city names.
Is there a version that saves leads? Not yet. A later version may let you save one business at a time to your VendBuddy pipeline; if it does, it will ask for any new permission up front and the privacy policy will say so first.
Want to try the search side first? Open Lead Finder and search any ZIP for free.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is VendBuddy Location Scout?
A free Chrome extension for vending operators. Click it on a business website or a Google Maps place and it reads the business name, ZIP and type, explains whether that kind of venue tends to work for vending, lists two things to check, and opens VendBuddy Lead Finder for that venue type and ZIP.
Does Location Scout collect my browsing data?
No. It reads the current page only when you click the icon, keeps what it reads inside the popup, and sends nothing anywhere. It has no analytics and uses two permissions: activeTab and scripting.
Do I need a VendBuddy account to use it?
No. The extension works on its own. You need a free VendBuddy account only to reveal contacts in Lead Finder; every new account starts with 5 free credits and searching is free.
Can it tell me how much a location will make?
No. The notes describe how each venue type tends to work for vending; they are not income estimates. Use the walk-in and your own numbers to judge a specific location.
What is selling, which buildings say yes, and the numbers before you buy a machine. Free, confirm from your inbox, unsubscribe in one click. Refer one friend and get 25 VendBuddy credits.
Walk-ins and cold emails find locations. A small site with your own machine photos and a request-a-machine form lets the next one find you. Around machine three to five, an AI builder drafts it in an evening. Wix is the mature site builder; Base44 also builds working tools like a quote form.
