This vending machine pitch script for UK sites is the walk-in version: a line for reception, a 45-second pitch for whoever runs the building, answers to the three objections you will hear, and the close. It is adapted from our US script for how UK workplaces buy: facilities managers, site managers and practice managers, written agreements and public liability cover.
At reception
"Hi, I run a local vending company. Who looks after facilities here, the break room and that sort of thing? I'd like two minutes with them, or a name I can email."
If they are not in, ask for an email address and when they are usually about. Leave the one-page sheet (below) with their name on it.
The 45-second pitch
"I place and look after snack and drink machines for sites like yours. There's no cost to you: I supply the machine, keep it stocked and clean, and fix it if it goes wrong. Your staff get something decent on the late shift or when the canteen's shut, and it takes contactless. I've got public liability cover and I'll put everything in a simple written agreement, with notice either side. Could I have a look at where it would go?"
Say less than you think. Then ask about the people: how many on site, what shifts, where they go now for food.
The three objections
- "We already have a supplier." "Fair enough. How are you finding them? If it's ever empty or broken for days, I'd be glad to be the backup. Can I leave my details?"
- "We don't want the hassle." "That's the point of me. I restock, clean and repair, and you've got one number to call. If it doesn't work out, the agreement lets you give notice."
- "What does it cost us?" "Nothing for the machine or stock. It needs a standard plug socket and a bit of floor space. Some sites take a commission; we can agree that in writing."
The close
"Shall we try it for three months? I'll send the agreement over this week. If your team doesn't use it, you can give notice and I'll take it away."
What to leave behind
- A one-page sheet: what you offer, contactless payment, your insurance, your phone number.
- Proof of public liability insurance, or the policy number ready to quote.
- A draft site agreement, short and in plain English.
Before the machine goes in, register it with that council as a food business and allow 28 days. Our UK set-up guide covers the rest.
